                                      Internship Placement through Project G.E.M.


                                      Purpose:
                                      Internship is designed to:
                                      Provide opportunities to apply classroom learning acquire new knowledge develop skills in applying sociological perspectives and methods in a real life setting experience professional socialization explore a career serve as a vehicle for students to become more aware of personal strengths identify areas in which further growth is needed

                                      Goals:
                                      Students should walk away from this experience having gained:
                                      A clearer understanding of the knowledge base and specific skills required to use in a professional work setting more awareness of the factors related to positive social change better understanding of the interaction, importance, and connections between the organization and community personal growth to be accountable and responsible adults

                                      Requirements:
                                      Students placed in Project GEM will:
                                      Meet with the Program Director, complete and sign the required paper work upon entering into the program have a clear understanding of the program’s mission, vision, and services provided in the community be responsible for their own work hours by completing the monthly time sheets needed for internship credit have good communication with the Program Director; e-mail, phone, meetings. submit needed job tasks on time have dependable transportation available hand in time sheet hours when internship has been completed and fill out the program evaluation form
