Internship is designed to:
- Provide opportunities to apply classroom learning
- Acquire new knowledge and develop skills in applying sociological perspectives and methods in a real life setting
- Experience professional socialization
- Explore a career serve as a vehicle for students to become more aware of personal strengths
- Identify areas in which further growth is needed
Goals:
Students should walk away from this experience having gained:
- A clearer understanding of the knowledge base and specific skills required to use in a professional work setting
- More awareness of the factors related to positive social change
- Better understanding of the interaction, importance, and connections between the organization and community personal growth to be accountable and responsible adults
Requirements:
Students placed in Project GEM will:
- Meet with the Program Director, complete and sign the required paper work upon entering into the program
- Have a clear understanding of the program’s mission, vision, and services provided in the community
- Be responsible for their own work hours by completing the monthly time sheets needed for internship credit
- Have good communication with the Program Director; e-mail, phone, meetings. submit needed job tasks on time
- Have dependable transportation available at all times
- Hand in time sheet hours when internship has been completed, give an oral report to the Board members upon completion and fill out the program evaluation form
